AGA REEF RESORT

COASTAL RESORT | LALOMANU, SAMOA

Set along Samoa’s coastline, Aga Reef Resort combines timber accommodation with open communal spaces and details inspired by local building traditions.

T&B’s involvement covered design, manufacturing and supply, with a scope extending beyond the timber structures to joinery, plumbing, electrical equipment and fittings. A partial show house was assembled at the Knysna factory so the client could review the finishes and make final selections before production.

More than 400 tonnes of timber and materials were shipped in 18 containers, arriving in construction sequence. Components were precut, labelled and, where needed, predrilled to simplify assembly. Working with a local contractor and Samoan workforce, the team completed the project in time for the resort’s scheduled opening.

HILTON AMINGIRI RESORT & SPA

ISLAND RESORT | THE MALDIVES

Located on Amingiri Island in the North Malé Atoll, this resort brings together beachfront and overwater accommodation overlooking the surrounding lagoon.

T&B’s scope included the design and supply of overwater villas, lagoon villas and family suites, together with premanufactured furniture, fixtures and equipment. The work involved translating the designs into components that could be manufactured and shipped for assembly in the Maldives.

The T&B team prepared complete assembly drawings and supporting documentation, with delivery to Malé. Detailed preparation linked the manufacturing and supply stages with the requirements of the team on site.

GRAND PARK KODHIPPARU

ISLAND RESORT | MALDIVES

At Grand Park Kodhipparu, timber villas extend across the lagoon, with private decks and open views of the Indian Ocean. Timber features throughout the accommodation, from exposed roof structures to interior floors and joinery.

T&B’s work on the resort brought together villa design, timber construction and the REVO premanufactured building system. Components were identified by project, villa type and position within the building, helping the site team match individual pieces to their intended location during assembly.

Preparation also extended to the finishes. Timber received two coats of Woodoc in the factory, followed by a third on site, with different treatments selected for exterior woodwork and interior floors and joinery. These practical details formed part of delivering timber accommodation for an island setting.

MILIBANGALALA BAY RESORT

COASTAL RESORT | MAPUTO, MOZAMBIQUE

Set above Milibangalala Beach, this resort brings together coastal accommodation and the wildlife setting of Maputo National Park. Buildings sit among the surrounding vegetation, with terraces and shared outdoor spaces looking towards the Indian Ocean.

Timber decks, shaded verandas and raised chalet-style buildings give the resort a character suited to its coastal surroundings. The restaurant and pool areas open towards the beach, while accommodation is arranged to make the most of the landscape and sea views.

Part of T&B’s Mozambique project portfolio, Milibangalala adds a mainland coastal resort to the group’s experience across residential and hospitality developments in southern Africa.

WILLOWSLOPES FARM

FARM RESIDENCE | KAROO, SOUTH AFRICA

Willowslopes Farm combines an elevated timber structure with contemporary interiors and wide views across the surrounding hills. A covered veranda wraps around the home, with large glazed doors connecting the living spaces to the outdoors. Broad roof overhangs provide shade, while timber posts and cable balustrades keep the outlook open.

Inside, timber flooring, exposed beams and generous wooden surfaces sit alongside pale walls, dark cabinetry and stone detailing. High ceilings and upper-level windows bring light into the dining area, where a long communal table forms the centre of the space.

The kitchen and dining areas are closely connected, with wide openings onto the veranda. From the raised structure to the interior finishes, the home shows how timber can suit a modern farmhouse design while retaining the warmth and texture of its materials.

SEDGEFIELD SOLID LOG HOME

PRIVATE HOME | SEDGEFIELD, SOUTH AFRICA

Built on a steep, wooded slope overlooking the water, this double-storey solid log home makes the most of its elevated position. Covered timber decks extend across both levels, providing generous outdoor space with views over the surrounding trees and shoreline.

Solid-log walls, exposed beams and timber floors carry the same material throughout the home. Wide sliding doors connect the rooms to the verandas, while cable balustrades keep the views open. Deep roof overhangs shelter the upper deck, creating space to sit outside beneath the exposed timber roof structure.

The approach reveals another side of the project, with a paved driveway and matching timber garages set higher on the slope. Stairs and connecting walkways link the different levels, adapting the home to the changing ground beneath it.

COOT CLUB LAGOONSIDE RETREAT

RETREAT | STANFORD, SOUTH AFRICA

Set among the fynbos beside the Klein River Lagoon, Coot Club’s boathouses take their inspiration from the simple boat sheds found along the local shoreline. Pitched roofs, corrugated metal cladding and round windows give the buildings a distinctive character, with large glazed openings framing the lagoon and mountains beyond.

Designed by Kritzinger Architects, with T&B Log Homes as the main contractor, the boathouses use a lightweight modular timber structure raised above the ground. This approach was chosen to limit disturbance to the site and allow vegetation to continue growing around and beneath the buildings.

Inside, pale timber panelling, exposed roof beams and wooden floors create bright, open spaces. Kitchens, dining areas and lounges sit beneath vaulted ceilings, with wood-burning stoves and wide sliding doors connecting the accommodation to its waterside setting.

JONGENSFONTEIN

COASTAL RESIDENCE | JONGENSFONTEIN, SOUTH AFRICA

Set on a sloping site above the rocky shoreline, this Jongensfontein project combines dark metal cladding with natural timber detailing. Simple rooflines follow the contemporary design, while large windows and sea-facing balconies make the most of the coastal setting.

The buildings extend over two levels, with timber posts, exposed beams and decks connecting the upper accommodation to the ground below. Timber surrounds bring warmth to the windows and doors, contrasting with the charcoal cladding and lighter finishes on the lower level.

Solar panels sit along the roofs, while coastal vegetation surrounds the buildings. The combination of materials gives the project a character of its own, showing a different approach to timber construction from a traditional log home.

Waterfall House

PRIVATE RESIDENCE | BELA-BELA, SOUTH AFRICA

Set above a waterfall in Bela-Bela, this private residence is built into a dramatic rocky setting. The raised timber house looks out over the gorge, with decks and walkways extending towards the surrounding landscape.

Inside, the open-plan living and dining areas sit beneath a high exposed timber roof. Large windows bring in natural light and views, while the timber finishes continue the character of the house through the kitchen, lounge and dining space.

From above, the wider property comes into view. The main house sits among smaller timber buildings, with paths and walkways connecting the different areas across the sloping site. The waterfall and rocky terrain are part of the experience of the property, shaping the views from both inside and out.

KLING

PRIVATE RESIDENCE | KNYSNA, SOUTH AFRICA

Set among the trees in Knysna, Kling is a private home that brings timber and brick together. The upper level is finished in timber, while the brick lower level grounds the house on its sloping site.

Decks run along the upper level and connect to an external stair, creating generous outdoor space around the home. The raised structure also leaves covered areas below, while the different levels follow the shape of the ground.

With its broad roof, dark timber cladding and brick base, Kling has a character of its own. It shows how timber can sit comfortably alongside masonry, giving the home a different feel from a traditional all-timber log house.

PHANTOM RIVER

PRIVATE RESIDENCE | SOUTH AFRICA

Set in Phantom River, this timber home is raised above the natural slope, with a long covered deck facing the surrounding views. Its broad roof and warm timber exterior sit among mature trees, while the elevated structure leaves sheltered space beneath the main living areas.

Inside, exposed timber beams draw the eye across the open-plan living and dining area. A brick fireplace wall brings a solid contrast to the timber, while wide doors connect the dining space to the deck and outdoors.

The kitchen carries the same open feeling, with light cabinetry, a timber island and a vaulted ceiling. In the bathroom, exposed beams and a large window bring in natural light and views. Solar panels sit on the roof, showing how modern comforts can be included in a timber home.
